Request of the “Center of Environmental Law”

Lawyer of the “Center of Environmental Law” Nikoloz Mzhavanadze held a press conference about constructions in parks, squares and gardens.

“Recent years there are increased constructions in parks, squares and gardens. It can be said with certainty that Tbilisi faces ecological disaster, because in the territories of recreational areas, sold by authorities of the city trees have been cut and, after the permission by office of architecture, there are taking place active constructions.

Such actions of the authorities of the city directly contradict:

1. Decision of counsil of Tbilisi – on stopping privatization of squares, parks, sidewalks and sporting playgrounds  of Tbilisi and restricting construction on their territories. This decision was made, when the chairman of the council was Mikheil Saakashvili.

 2. Resolution of Parliament – on protection of green areas, parks, gardens and squares in settlements of Georgia.

3. Resolution of Tbilisi City Hall – on hosting and further enchancement of parks, gardens, squares and green areas of Tbilisi”- said the lawyer of the Center Nikoloz Mzhavanadze.

 At the press conference there were presented facts of construction in squares at Chavchavadze st. 11 and 50, Budapeshti st. 14, near the Sports Palace and in Park of vake.
